Stará Ľubovňa is located in the northeastern part of Slovakia, in the western part of the Ľubovnianska Kotlina basin The town center features a rectangular square with historic burgher architecture, including a collection of burgher houses and the Roman Catholic Church of St. Nicholas.

The town of Stará Ľubovňa thrives on history and culture. The Ľubovňa Castle and open-air museum are popular among tourists, offering exhibitions dedicated to the history of the castle and Stará Ľubovňa. The residents of the town highly value their history, as evidenced not only by the exhibition in the castle but also by the museum called Dom Ľubovnianskeho Mešťana (House of Ľubovňa Burgher) and the Provincial House in Stará Ľubovňa, serving as a municipal gallery presenting works of domestic and foreign artists. There is also a memorial room dedicated to Ján Melkovič, an actor and composer born in Stará Ľubovňa, and a well-known Slovak writer Terézia Vansová.

For lovers of hiking, there are numerous beautiful hiking trails in the surroundings of Stará Ľubovňa. You can enjoy walks through the Jarabina Gorge, traverse the ridge of the Spišská Magura from Vyšné Ružbachy to its highest point, Veterný Vrch, or hike through the Haligovské Rocks.

Ľubovňa Castle and Open-Air Museum

Ľubovňa Castle is the dominant feature of the Ľubovňa Basin. The castle offers a historical exhibition showcasing the history of the fortress castle. The complex also includes an open-air museum that provides visitors with insights into life in a traditional village in the Upper Spiš and Šariš regions. The highlight of the museum is the wooden Greek Catholic church dedicated to St. Michael the Archangel. Visitors can also observe traditional livestock breeding as one of the interesting attractions.

Church of St. Nicholas

The Church of St. Nicholas is the centerpiece of St. Nicholas Square in Stara Ľubovňa and dates back to the Gothic period. Inside the church, you can find a rare Late Gothic stone baptismal font from the 16th century, as well as Late Gothic sandstone and red marble tomb slabs. The main Baroque altar of St. Nicholas is adorned with woodcarvings, and there is a large painting of St. Nicholas from the second half of the 19th century.

House of a Ľubovňa Burgher

The House of a Ľubovňa Burgher is a museum located on St. Nicholas Square. Its exhibition focuses on the life of the middle class in the 19th century and includes a paper production workshop, indigo dyeing demonstrations, and a mint.

Jarabinský prielom - Gorge

Passing through gorge called Jarabinský Prielom is among the most popular activities for tourists in the vicinity of Stara Ľubovňa. This natural reserve offers beautiful views of canyons and narrow passages, suitable even for families with children.
