Caraffa Prison, formerly a torture chamber and prison, now a cultural space brimming with art and good taste.

Caraffa Prison in Prešov is, in fact, the City Gallery located on Jarková Street, affectionately known as “Caraffka.” It has been operating as a gallery since 2012 and falls under the management of the Park of Culture and Leisure. Its goal is to create a space for artists, art enthusiasts, and students alike.

The gallery showcases new trends in various forms of visual art, ranging from paintings and graphics to photography, posters, audio-visual installations, lighting design, and architectural designs. The exhibited works primarily come from local professional artists, as well as students of art disciplines and anyone participating in the curated exhibition of non-professional artists called the Biennale.

In addition to exhibitions, the gallery also offers its spaces for other activities such as lectures, workshops, and chamber concerts. One of the gallery’s notable events is the Prešov Montmartre, a popular street festival featuring music, theater, dance, and visual arts right in the city center.
