A unique museum in which you will go back in time
The cellar spaces beneath the City Hall in Prešov are home to the unique Wine Museum, which was established here in 1994. However, a wine tavern already existed on the premises in the 16th century. Two centuries later, it was replaced by prisons or underground shelters during wars. Fortunately, thanks to the city’s initiative, the dilapidated spaces were once again transformed into a sanctuary for wine at the end of the 20th century, serving its purpose to this day.
The museum’s exhibition mainly consists of bottled wines from all corners of the world, complemented by three-dimensional exhibits showcasing wine production techniques and vine cultivation. Visitors can be guided by qualified experts during their museum visit. The museum also features a tasting room, providing space for various events ranging from traditional wine tastings to family celebrations, weddings, promotions, corporate events, and training sessions.
The Wine Museum also actively engages in a competition called Muvina, organized annually. It is one of the most reliable wine tastings worldwide, with the participation of international oenologists. Wines of all categories – white, rosé, and red wines, sparkling wines, and liqueur wines – can be entered into the competition. Local wine producers can thus measure their skills against foreign producers in this prestigious competition.
